Tyrannosaurus Rex

The Tyrannosaurus rex, often called T. rex, was one of the largest and most fearsome carnivorous dinosaurs to ever live. It roamed western North America about 68 to 66 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period. Measuring up to 40 feet long and 12 feet tall at the hips, T. rex had powerful hind legs, a massive skull, and strong jaws filled with sharp, banana-sized teeth capable of crushing bone.

The T. rex became extinct around 66 million years ago during the mass extinction event that also wiped out most other dinosaurs. Today, it remains one of the most iconic and studied dinosaurs in paleontology.

Food Facts

Despite its small, two-fingered arms, T. rex was a dominant predator and possibly also a scavenger. It had keen eyesight and an excellent sense of smell, which helped it locate prey or carrion over long distances. Fossil evidence suggests it hunted large herbivores like Triceratops and Edmontosaurus.
